Last Friday, Esther, Char & I made our way down to the Old Supreme Court next to Padang to attend the Singapore Biennale 2008. I got to admit; we didn't go down on our own accord; but rather for a SPM tutorial in which we have to immerse ourselves in; and appreciate arts.

We surprised ourselves by staying till late and had actually finished viewed all the exhibits! It was so much fun and personally, it had opened my eyes to the different art forms around and made me realise than art can be almost anything; not only drawings/ paintings on canvas!

The following are some of my favourite exhibits:

Xteriors I, II, IV, VIII, 2001- 2007
Photography.
Desiree Dolron

I loved how the artist had managed to capture such a perfect shot and I honestly have gotten goosebumps when I stared hard at the haunting eyes of the models.

The colours used by Dolron were extremely rich and together with the darkness and depth which I presume were achieved through playing of lights, these gives the models an ethereal, almost real life look.

Black Monday, 2008
Single Channel Video
Sergio Prego

I hated this video initially but after a while. I was enthralled by the vivid images! Prego actually came up with the idea to capture image stills of an explosion resulting from a flare and thus, he'd successfully captured blocks of smoke and the music and lighting just seemed to make you crave for more.

Bachelor, The Dual Body 2003
Installation
Ki- Bong Rhee

This is my absolute favourite exhibit. To the uninitiated, this may be as simple as throwing a text into an aquarium filled with water. However it is important to know and appreciate the idealogy behind this installation.

Rhee had used a classic Philosopy text from Western Europe and the water is actually a medium to keep the book suspended; almost in midair and the dancing motions of the book and of the pages suggests the culture of the Europeans in which in logical thinking, they are always fun and light hearted!

Guides have also suggests that this installation shows the bewilderness of the Europeans towards the future; especially in recent times with so much uncertainty!

However; putting all the meanings aside; It shouldnt be too difficult to see the beauty of the image one constantly sees in front of themselves; and not be awed by the profound meaning behind this work.

*

Esther & I decided that we would love to do a video on 2 of the most fun exhibits we've came across and I'll leave you to click on it and listen to why we love them((:

(i) I'm Not Expensive, 2008
Installation
Yong Deok Lee

(ii) Blackfield, 2008
Site Specific Installation
Zadok Ben-David

**

Doing this piece of assignment was fun and I was indeed exposed to many different and fun types of art forms! However; it has shown me that I am honestly missing out in such a self fulfilling experience and it had definitely drawn out my curiosity and interest for the arts(:

I Failed.

LOL when I told Esther after the session; She STILL DOUBTED ME!

She thought that I've lied:S

Owell; I just told my dad he shall drive me around for the rest of my life~ HAHA

It's so demoralising. First person in the cohort who failed)):

My mom and dad are lovely though; Mom told me to sign up for it again; Cos she would go with me((: Dad said it's normal to fail on 1st go((:

[They MAY be biased but they have got the rights to be:D:D]

Only my 2 little brothers laughed~ It would be my turn when they go for the test 2 & 4years from now! Hahah!

I ALMOST FREAKED OUT

WHEN I SAW THIS!

For those who have absolutely NO idea what I'm talking about;

HOOSIERS= WHAT IUB STUDENTS ARE CALLED!

(Apparently. They represent the School or something. ANYWAY; it's a million times fabber than what NP students are called; I DONT EVEN KNOW what we are called:S LOL! SO much for School Spirit!)

I MISS YOU LIKE MAD WHEN I SAW THIS;
(And my typing in CAPS justified how I felt when this guy was standing in front of me outside Fish & Co; Paragon!)

GO HOOSIERS!

*Sigh; I wish I could get a chance to see a Hoosiers Football game):

So after school's out on Friday, Char, Esther & I made our way down to the Old Supreme Court right next to Padang and we had a wild time, looking at the exhibits participating in Biennale 2008.

We had to do this for a write up required for the following week's SPM tutorial and it was about arts appreciation(: One may presume art to be drawing on canvas but the exhibits were everything BUT that. Once we've handed up the assignment; I'll def post up some of my favorite exhibits and you maye be amazed that some of them were even considered "art". So it's pretty interesting(:

(I shan't expose what this is~ But yer; This IS Art; LOL)

Char was the camerman for the day and she honestly went snap happy. SHE was like in her own world; snapping while Esther & I just went about our won business and "appreciating"; But we did make our own video(: SO do watch out for that!

We walked over to Marina Sq for dinner at Lerk Thai; And it was awesome! Haven't had Thai food in ages and the Tom Yam was of course! The best!

Went for a little bit of shopping AND! Esther got me to buy this dress from Topshop! AW; if she hadn't suggested going in there; I would NOT have seen the dress which I wanted to get from ages ago hanging on the sales rack~ Gosh~ SO! Hahaha

Moral of the Story: It's bad to go shopping with an undiagnosed Shopaholic!

*

Saw this outside Billy Bombers:

LOL! This is so friggin lame; But funny; Too bad; It wasn't Obama doing the "Welcoming"~ But you can totally picture McCain in the chef's hat and everyhing:/ LOL Yer; that goes to show how much of a Republican supporter I am:S LOL

OH! And honestly! A candy bar to the 1st person who could guess what is this device used for!! No bribing of Char or Esther alright! HAHA

Went over to pastor's place today as we had a gathering with the poly and jc people(: IT was great fun! We made our own popiahs and kueh pad tees and the food was just fab!

The girls started playing Cranium and Taboo and everything was just. LOL crazy! The way we described the words and did the charades and "humdinger"~ Gosh! Can't believe I didnt know how to hum to "Stand By Me"~ It's like; I should go knock on the wall or something!

Still! 3 cheers for Aunty Anna, Jana, Sabrina, Jeslin!! We won in Taboo:D:D hahaha

Darling Bronwyn was such a cutie; licking all our feet and jumping on us; leaving her hair on all of us and esp those we were wearing black or dark colored clothes.

That's her interrupting a game of Bridge; I WNA LEARN HOW TO PLAY THAT~ But it seems so~ Complicated! LOL

From left: Aunty Anna, Shirley, Jeslin, ME(:, Janine, Sabrina, Sandy, Emily, Jana, Pamela & Valerie
Ps/ A PRIZE to those we could guess who are sisters in the picture! LOL

From left: Peter, Yuxuan, Pastor Simon(:, Ben, Aaron, Kenneth, Gerald.
SAME THING; A prize for those who guessed which pair are brothers! Lol our church have got tons of cousins and siblings and whatnots! HAHA

Fellowship was awesome; Talked about everything from celebs to soccer; to GREEK:D and OF COURSE! The US conspiracy theories! My God~ I'm honestly never gna see Obama & Ophrah in the same light agains:S

Still, it was fab! I wna go early the next time and learn how to bake those yummy cookies which some of the girls made today((: WOULD Love to do this sometime again!

Okay; I know today's post isn't up to standard; but i feel so horrid now~ Tired and sticky; Gross I know! SG is so hot and HUMID! Bahh! I NEED MY AIR CON UNIT!

It's SUNDAY tomorrow! YAY! FINALLY! Shall sleep early then! Church's tomorrow!

Bonjour!

Had French yesterday((: And I'm proud to say that I haven't really lost touch with French~ At least; not as much as I feared. The instructor, Mon. Benoit asked me in French, what time do I wake up on a typical Sunday morning and I replied, 8am, because I got to jog~ Geez. I wish?! It were real; at least for EVERY Sunday morning~

**For those who are savvy enough; you'd probably know WHY I picked this particular song for my blog((: Aw I wished it were a Sunday morning now!

Anyway;

{Geez; I smile TOO hard sometimes :/ Bleugh! But Esther's cute isnt it?:D}

Anyhow, went to this noodle place beside Prata House near my place with Esther and Yina for dinner and it was fun! Though they kept talking about lousy GPAs and stuff! *Stress* I'm only glad to be improving; albeit a small one; No matter what my GPA is (I'm just glad it's above 3!)

Saw something so so sweet on
Ley's blog;

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength,
while loving someone deeply gives you courage.

This is so so true...

The Day After

SO; My dad's birthday was kind of like a Christmas celebration thing cos he actually opened his pressies the day AFTER this birthday; kind of like Boxing Day! HAHA

So I was the one in charge of getting my dad's gift and it was after a bit a shopping before I decided to get this long sleeved shirt from Banana Republic. First of all; it was TOUGH shopping for a guy and my dad doesnt really want anything~ Cept for that odd pair of shoes and tons of socks! (He runs through socks like no body!)

Anyway; my mom and brothers hated the long sleeved shirt as my dad doesnt really wear them; He prefers short sleeves; so yer; I was kinda upset when I heard they hated it! Cos I thought the shirt was gorgeous!

However; my dad loved this shirt and I "forced" him to take off the polo he was wearing and put on the shirt! Aw; I may be biased but; I have the right to be:D:D He's my dad! And he look so good!

HAPPY 47th DADDY!!!

OH! And we kind of got out the wine with Harrison got for my dad when he was in SG and it was perfect! My dad loved the bittersweetness and tanginess of the Australian Shiraz and I got to get abit of the wine too! It was absolutely delish! So HAIRYSON! You can breathe easy! LOL

***

Anyway; tomorrow's a new school week and the schedule for tomorrow is insane!! 9am to 6pm with a one hour lunch break in between!!

I want PERSEVERANCE!!!
Evening

So we decided to go over to the SG Flyer in the evening since it was such an awesome day and we would like to do something special and sadly; SG Flyer was it): LOL We had awesome steak at Jack's Place)):

Apparently, my family is sick of Outback Steakhouse)): *BOO* The most wondeful steak is from Outback!!! So anyhow; I got my tenderloin done medium rare and yum~ Okay; I'm feeling a little hungry now. Seriously! I've been noticing my diet and I realise that I ALWAYS ALWAYS LOVE to binge on steak and sushi/sashimi on weekends! LOL!

So; back to Jack's Place; I wanted to order some oysters because I was craving for the aphrodisiac; Hahaha BUT apparently; they dont serve them raw): [ See how BAD that place is?! *TSK*] And I had to order some escargots in which my little brother was TICKLED by the special tongs used to skew the snails!!

HAHA! After the satisfying dinner; we were shopping around and THEN we made our way to the Flyer. We had to go past the Ritz and it was amazing! the foyer was gorgeous and I saw this lady in this gorgeous crimson dress!

We went right to Build a Bear Workshop because my little brother wanted to MAKE A BEAR for this girl NAMED SARAH! ARGH. And he claimed that she's "a friend!"

Yer RIGHT! I'll.. Do something drastic; if that's the case! He fretted over the bear to get and he fretted more when he had to choose the bear's outfit!

Giving the bear a SHOWER! (This Was HILARIOUS!)

TADA! Dressing the bear in the chosen outfit! Quan chose this CUTE Piglet overalls! It so so CUTE!

Choosing of the names((:

And here's Sugar BEAR((:

Tell me?! Which 14 year old guy would go through ALL those trouble just to get a gift for "a girl"? NONE?! That's the answer! It was HILARIOUS! To see my little brother doing all those stuff to the bear! Putting on the clothes, rubbing the little heart in his palm to keep the darling bear warm and toasty and to give a bear a SHOWER! (NO KIDDING!) And to put on the clothes and to choose a name! (SUGAR BEAR; YUPP I came up with the front; he added the "bear") LOL!

(The PROMISE he had to make before leaving the store! LOL!)

Just enjoy the video!

AW! HE made me wna get a stuffed wonder toy of my own too! And I loathe stuffed toys!! Go figure!

***

Anyway; the Flyer was fab! You had to hop onto the cabin as it is moving and off you go into the sky! The night scenery of SG was amazing! Those gorgeous lights go on for as long as your eyes and see and it is just kinda fun; snapping tons of photos with your brother as a photographer and it should be kind of romantic I guess(:

It was kinda cheesy the way the PA announced that you are at the "top of the world" when the cabin was at maximum height but is was thrilling to just look down onto everything and to look up and see the stars! We had the cake on my dad's "lunar" birthday a couple of days ago and it was fab! But I will do it and the unveiling of his gift in another post!!

My lovely family((: (Apologies for the blurry pic!)

Sometimes; in the midst of everything; You take everything for granted and forget how beautiful Singapore really is((: Sad but very true~

How the Marina Bay IR will look in 2010:D Aint it gorgeous?!(((:

19.10.08

MORNING!

It's my dad's 47th birthday on 18 Oct 08 and it was just the MOST unforgettable birthday for him and the whole family in so many aspects!

As it was a Saturday; the 4 of us basically had to force him to stay home with us and NOT go to work; ( Yes; sadly enough, the 5day work week does not apply to him). So being a healthy freak; my dad had to go exercise in the morning and I volunteered and decided to drag my entire family to Bukit Timah Hill for a bit of trekking:D:D

The morning was perfect! I was all for a bit of "mountain" climbling and fresh air was doing so much wonderful stuff for my brain!

Anyway; my brothers and I went off the track and as I was climbing the even steps to get to the top; I was wheezing and breathing so hard! ( I was THAT unfit!)
So I thought everything was over because everything would be downhill from the summit but then! My dad had to suggest that we go down by an alternate route.

So we went off the tarred path and stepped onto the muddy and mucky path~ It was just FAB! Seriously, without the leeches and bugs, the track was perfect! Stepping here there and everywhere! I havent done this for ages and it was thrilling doing such trekking all over again in SG of all places!

Unfortunately; the path leads to another place! (Somewhere which we are not going!!!! We were LOST! In a way~~) And my mom have had enough of trekking and I guess it was due to dehydration but she felt faint all of a sudden!

We were alone as a family with 3cells between us; and water. No medication, no nothing and she was getting worse and she couldnt walk and could barely talk. ( I'm not exaggerating; it was THAT horrid!) So, J made the decision to call the police to get the number for the ranger and after like 30mins? We got a call from the police, medics, and rangers.

During the 30mins, we got so much help from passers by who offered their water, oinments and their words of care and concern! It was albeit touching, to see such lovely people in our midst and people who ACTUALLY offered to help my dad carry my mom to the next nearest shelter in which they had to climb like. 200 flights of stairs! ( No joke!)

Those 3 guys who helped were positively winded. But they still perservered! It was heart warming! We waited for the medics to arrive and my mom's vital stats were normal! ( Thank God!) And they had to carry here UP the hill, to the summit on a stretcher which requires 8 people to carry! We got some help from the wonderful students from SMU's Trekking Club and the original 3guys; along the way, the fire fighters came in their jumpers and orange helmets and the effort put in the help my mom were commendable!!

After like a 1km hike up to the summit; they put her in the Red Rhino and basically sped down to the base with the siren wailing. It was SURREAL. Honestly!! It's rather unbelievable but THERE! It happened. After much rest and glucose; THANKFULLY, my mom got better!! And I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone who had helped us along the way!

Without you; we would probably be stuck in the forest till like; night fall or something:S
So, Thank You(:

16.10.08

We had the SPM event yesterday and it was awesome! Seeing the students listening attentively and being genuinely interested in what we've prepared just made everything we've done and worked so hard for in the past 1 1/2 month so worth it!

It was so much fun being with the some of the class; and especially people whom I dont usually talk to in past semesters (sad; but true fact). It was awesome getting to know them all much better; (I'm sure you'd know who you are; HAAH)

Gorgeous Samantha and Weijian, Our GRECIAN mascots; STAR ATTRACTIONS:D:D I was SO positively JUMPING when I saw how beautiful they both looked in their DIY togas:D:D

***

This morning started off HORRID for me. My mom woke me up unceromoniously and when I jumped back into bed; the bridge of my ALREADY flat nose hit my cell right on the corner! (I've fallen asleep with it on my bed as I was waiting for a text:S)OUCH was pretty much of an understatement when I blacked out momentarily as I was barely conscious~

It still HURTS now; at 2237; when I touched my nose bridge):

THEN; I though everything was fine as I had my breakfast and went to school in the car with dad; Class was at 8; and I've reached at like. 7:45? I WAS EARLY! YAY isnt it? And I've waited and waited and waited as more and more people gather outside class. Waiting for my lecturer who was VERY late.

In the end, someone called the lecturer at like, 8:20, AND LECTURER was like,

"OH, I thought class was at 9?!"

GOSH, when that guy came, something was amiss. On my schedule, it was written that my instructor was a ESTHER GOH, and that lecturer standing in front of me, and the entire class was male;

Curiously enough, EVERYONE in class had a certain handbook with FIRE HAZARD thingy printed on it's cover.

I had signed up for INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATIONS; not some FIRE HAZARD class~ That's when I've collected myself and asked the girl behind me.

THEN; I realised, I had waited close to 45mins, OUTSIDE a class, a class which was called HBM; WHATEVER THAT MEANS. I was beyond~ I dont know. OMGGG. Didnt even came close to my mind. It was~ I was in the totally WRONG building, and by the time I went up the hill to the other building, I've jumped right into the WRONG class.

"ARE you here for GAMES?"

F. R. E. A. K.

Obviously not. I was POSITIVELY delirious by the time I found my DEAREST Esther GOH. AND I couldnt be more GRATEFUL for the fact that I was in the right class, learning about Intercultural Communications~

Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace.

13.10.08

Had a really awesome time on Saturday when I went off with my family to have a great dinner! I was craving for some Japanese and my dad brought us to Shokudo at Raffles City where we could order whatever we want~ It was. P.E.R.F.E.C.T. !!!

The 1st thing I got was my staple of course! Cold, yummy bowl of macha (green tea) SOBA! I've kinda gotten used to the coldness of the dish and THEN! I dragged Quan to the sashimi counter where I got my fav! TUNA & Tako!

(Missed *you* like mad when I was ordering this because of our insane, shared liking for sashimi; aw.)

Wagyu Beef Burger:D

YUMMY! Japanese fried rice wrapped in a soft layer of omelette! It's salty but extremely TASTY!

Ordered some other sushi and Quan got his soft shell crab hand roll (HIS obsession!)
The table was just. FILLED of food. Seriously. It's sinful but; like chocolate; it's extremely satisfying:D

***

Anyway; school's in session today!
It's kinda horrid to wake up in the morning; with the mentality that we have to face lectures and tutorials in the weeks to come; with Christmas holidays as the candy we all have to work towards.

With the SPM project launching this Wednesday; there were many loose ends to tie up and we had to head towards Clementi to get our materials. We got our lovely tarts! We had to get like; 200 of those yummy treats and we got got a discount! Which is fab for our accounts!

PLUS; we have to get the fabric for our MASCOTS! And due to our budget; we tweaked out brains a wee bit and with our creative minds! WE CAME UP WITH THIS!

LOL it was HILARIOUS!

Okay; I'll come back with more pictures from the set up TOMORROW! JY 04!!!

9.10.08

I Feel So Accomplished TODAY!

Okay; The day started off really bad because I was late; REALLY late today.

But; other than that; Everything went on smoothly(: We worked hard at our banner and seriously! It was gorgeous! I'm probably biased; But I have the right to be:D:D I slogged my guts out. Okay; We~

My dearest Yuxue, Cat &

E for ESTHER!:D:D

The Gorgeous BUT Expensive Acrylic Paint(:

We went back to the ancient times and started sewing the cutesy alphabets to the gorgeous colored cloth

ESTHER CANT SEW?! HAHA Just Found Out TODAY

And then; we started taping the masking tape for the border and then painted the rich gold color around it(: The STENCIL! Well, it was the Fred Perry logo; but honestly. We had to print them on tranparancies and. THEN! It comes the question of using a penknife to carve the stuff out. That WAS hard work and yer! KUDOS to my 3 girls((:

AMAZING huh?!(((:

It was just. Breath taking; Seeing the work in action~ Aw; I'm really thankful for the 3 of them who helped made this happen(: The finale was just. Aw; I was so proud of what we've done I was busy showing it off and hanging onto it! Hahaha!

*

Right after the project. I didnt wna go home so early yet. LOL I just wna hang out because school's in session next week!

Cat, Esther & I hightailed to AMK HUB and the bus trip was full of. Debates about guys who are jerks in general and when should a girl ditch a guy SHOULD they do something so devastatingly wrong. Hahaha! OUR VIEWS ARE SO DIFFERENT I TELL YOU!

It was really fun and dinner was yummmy((: But I think I've contracted some sort of minor food posioning cos my tummy hurt like crap immediately after that~

We went to get our desserts after that(: I've got my fix of yummy Mango Snow ICE((: aw; ANYWAY; my mom said that you can ONLY get this in KAOSHIUNG, TW; is that true?! Meaning no other places in TW sell this stuff? IS IT TRUE?!

Owell; while the other 2 DURIAN people got their Durian pancake thing. HAHA! ( I rmb taking a picture of them! But I cant find the picture on my cell!)

OKAY; so I shall end it like that for today(:
But before I forget! To the special someone(((:

Poposhipo Too♥♥♥
